Exactly one year after the large protest in Kragujevac under the slogan “Let’s meet on Sretenje,” students are once again organizing a gathering in Šumadija. This year, on Sunday, February 15, they will once again assemble in Kragujevac, and the central event will be held, as has been learned, at a location near the city.
After the largest public gathering ever held in Kragujevac, on February 15, 2025, in 10 days we can expect another one.
“The gathering begins in the late morning hours on Sunday, February 15, and will be held at two locations. More precisely, the assembly starts at one location in Kragujevac, from where we hope a large column will move to another, near the city. At the second location, which is close to Kragujevac, speeches will be held,” a student from the University of Kragujevac, who asked to remain anonymous, told Nova.rs.
At the location outside the city, speeches will be held dedicated to the student struggle, laws, and repression.
“In Kragujevac we will hold 16 minutes of silence, after which we will head to the second location, where the central part of the event will take place. It will take us some time to get there, so the gathering will certainly last until the late afternoon hours. At the location outside the city, students and our guests will speak. They will address those gathered, and the topics of the speeches are the Constitution, lawlessness, disrespect toward students and citizens, repression against us across the country, as well as against everyone who dares to think for themselves. We will also speak about the autonomy of the University and point out the problems of our own, but also all other universities in Serbia,” the student explains.
He notes that by the end of the day, students will publish the exact schedule and locations of the gathering on social media.
“Those who do not come to Kragujevac can go directly to the second location, and we will announce it by the end of the day,” our interlocutor points out.
As we previously reported, students will also present a retrospective of the struggle of the student movement and recall the first Sretenje protest in Kragujevac in 2025.
We remind that on that day, during a fifteen-hour blockade of the central city streets of Kragujevac, in memory of the 15 victims (the sixteenth victim died later) of the tragic collapse of a canopy at the Railway Station in Novi Sad, tens of thousands of people took part, and students from all parts of Serbia arrived at the protest on foot in an organized manner.
Incidentally, the first announcement of the new gathering for “Sretenje in Šumadija” could be heard at the protest “Knowledge is Power,” which students organized on January 27 this year in Belgrade.
Female and male students are calling on all citizens of Serbia to “meet again” this year as well, and assemblies of this city are already actively collecting donations for the gathering.
