Numerous children in Serbia have proven many times so far that although they are small, they truly have a big heart. One of them is definitely thirteen-year-old Lazar Ponjavić from Gornji Milanovac. The past summer will remain forever inscribed in his life as the moment when a child’s heart showed the greatness of adults. He intentionally gave up a part of himself in order to give hope, strength, and a reason to believe to his peers who are leading a difficult struggle. He cut his thick, long, and curly hair.
-In my 13 years of age, I have never fully cut my hair, only trimmed the ends, and that is why it grew so much. I saw on the internet that hair can be donated to sick children, and then I just suddenly decided to cut it all off and donate the hair. I hope that in this way I can help those in need at least in some way, Lazar told RINA.
The hair being donated must be at least 30 centimeters long and is sent to the “Always with Children” Association, which helps children being treated at the children’s department of the Institute of Oncology and Radiology. Without any nervousness, Lazar sat in the barber’s chair, in which he had never sat before. He knew his intention, and behind his cut locks remained something much larger — the faith that kindness lives among the generation of our descendants.
-No one forced him to do it. He decided it himself, and we supported him wholeheartedly in that and are proud of his humane decision, say his parents.
Otherwise, besides having a noble heart, Lazar is an excellent seventh-grade student, and at only seven years old, he began playing the accordion.
-My teacher is Goran Savić Virtuoz, and I have been playing for several years. This year I am preparing for my first competition. I love the accordion and I love music, says Lazar, with that quiet confidence that is not learned in school.
This move by Lazar says that a wonderful generation is growing up that thinks of others, and everyone who wants to can do the same as he did and help the association that fights for sick children.
