The head of Russian diplomacy said that in both Kosovo and Metohija and in Bosnia and Herzegovina, attacks have been launched on the vital interests of the Serbian people, including the fundamental rights of Serbian Orthodoxy.

“The unilateral recognition of the so-called Kosovo, contrary to Resolution 1244, essentially represented ‘an attempt to destroy the state structure of Serbia,’” emphasized the Russian minister.

Lavrov accused Western countries of deliberately sabotaging the Dayton Peace Agreement, thereby leading to the collapse of statehood in BiH, and described the actions of the West in the Balkans as a flagrant example of undermining sovereignty and gross interference in the internal affairs of independent states.

According to him, in this region the fundamental principle of the UN Charter, which obliges all member states to respect the decisions of the Security Council, is being openly violated.

“While such Western policy undermines peace and stability in the Balkans, Moscow remains consistent in defending the sovereignty of Serbia,” said Lavrov.
