Miomir Kecmanović advanced to the first ATP 500 semifinal of his career, but he was unable to celebrate the achievement properly due to a controversial umpire decision.
Kecmanović defeated Terence Atmane 6:3, 6:3 to reach the Top 4 in Acapulco and climb to No. 58 in the world rankings, although anyone watching the final moments of the match would hardly guess that he had won.
He was unable to celebrate because the umpire suddenly decided, on match point, to penalize the French player by awarding the point — and therefore the match — to the Serbian tennis player.
The decision was not made without reason, as the umpire ruled that Atmane was deliberately delaying play and, following an earlier warning, issued a point penalty.

The Frenchman was left stunned and visibly shaken, unsure how to react. He did not expect the umpire to announce over the microphone: “Point penalty.”
The ruling ended the match immediately, while even Kecmanović appeared unsure how to respond. He calmly walked to his bag and began packing his rackets as Atmane remained frozen on the court.
The crowd reacted with loud boos toward the umpire’s decision, and the match ultimately concluded with an embrace between the two players.
