Podcaster Joe Rogan spoke out about the suspension of host Jimmy Kimmel, saying that the U.S. government should not be dictating what comedians should be allowed to say and that conservatives are “crazy” if they support any interference with freedom of speech.
Rogan, who was a big supporter of U.S. President Donald Trump, condemned the government’s attempts to influence the content of comedy shows, CNN writes.
“I definitely don’t think the government should be involved in dictating what a comedian can or can’t say on his show,” Rogan said on his podcast.
He warned that if conservatives support such interference with freedom of speech, it could be turned against them.
“If people on the right are saying ‘yeah, go after them,’ oh my God, you’re crazy. You’re crazy for supporting this, because this is going to be used against you,” Rogan said.
Disney’s television network ABC last week cancelled Kimmel’s talk show because of his comments regarding the suspected killer of American patriot Charlie Kirk.
Kimmel was accused of politically exploiting the tragedy on his show, which caused a big reaction in the media and in political circles.
However, the show resumed broadcasting yesterday, ending an almost week-long hiatus and raising questions about freedom of speech and the First Amendment.
