“In the ‘Qatargate affair,’ Einhorn is suspected of conducting public opinion influence activities in Israel on behalf of Qatar – a state that plays a mediating role between Israel, the U.S., and Hamas, and which finances Hamas to this day – during Operation ‘Iron Swords.’ Einhorn has been in Serbia for months, if not longer. He knows that as soon as he sets foot in Israel, he will be arrested and sent to detention during the investigation, as happened to his partner Uri. Therefore, he avoids returning and has proposed that Israeli judicial authorities come to Serbia and conduct the questioning there,” Netael Bandel, a journalist covering legal topics for the newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth and the portal Ynet, told N1.

“VIP Investigation” Conditions

Bandel assessed that this is “not a standard investigation, but a so-called VIP investigation.”

“There is no pressure. It was agreed in advance that the investigation would last two days, under conditions set by Serbia. Einhorn is not in custody; he is free and returns home after questioning. Israeli judicial authorities are not pleased with this, but they have no choice because it is estimated that Serbia will not agree to Einhorn’s extradition. That is why they were forced to conduct the investigation in Serbia, under special conditions,” he said.

Bandel pointed out that investigations abroad are not uncommon in major corruption cases in Israel. “For example, in the submarine affair, or in cases against Prime Minister Netanyahu, investigations were also conducted outside the country – all under special, pre-agreed conditions. So, such situations occasionally happen, but always out of necessity. Judicial authorities would prefer that suspects be in Israel, detained and questioned,” Bandel stated.

He also mentioned that the public in Israel only generally knows what Einhorn does. Bandel said that Einhorn “likes to operate from the shadows,” and that this is “precisely his advantage.”

Master of Manipulation and Political Influence

He is not widely known to the public but can execute important political and international moves, Bandel noted. “During the war, he helped Israel with arms contracts, and that is his specialty. He knows how to act quietly, invisibly, but effectively. That’s why politicians in Israel appreciate him greatly,” Bandel stated.

“During Operation ‘Iron Swords,’ Einhorn served as a diplomatic channel for transferring ammunition to Israel via foreign countries, including Serbia, after the U.S. and other countries imposed an arms embargo. The head of Israel’s National Security Council, Tzachi Hanegbi, knew that if he contacted Einhorn, he would receive help. Unlike other PR experts in Israel, Einhorn has broad international contacts and is a professional on a global level. There are few like him in Israel, so both the media and the public appreciate him. However, his credibility among journalists is limited – he is primarily known as a master of information manipulation. He knows how to release selected information to the public to create a certain narrative, but journalists do not give him high credibility.”

Einhorn is suspected in two serious affairs – the so-called “Bild affair” and the “Qatargate affair.” In the ‘Bild affair,’ Einhorn is suspected of coming into possession of a secret military document, the so-called ‘Hamas document,’ which Israeli intelligence extracted from the Gaza Strip. The Israeli army banned the publication of this document due to its secrecy, but Einhorn and his associates forwarded the document to the German newspaper Bild. In this way, they bypassed military censorship and published prohibited security material,” the N1 interlocutor added.

Rise to Prominence

As Bandel further stated, Israel Einhorn is one of the most prominent public relations experts in Israel. He is considered a man for special assignments.

“He is a one-man operation with one office, occasionally collaborating with partners, but essentially running the business himself. He knows how to place information. He is an expert in social media, in understanding the audience, in interpreting the public – that is his expertise,” Bandel said.

He highlighted that Einhorn became well-known during Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s 2015 election campaign. “Einhorn had a very large PR firm in Israel, and from that firm, he became a well-known figure, but he truly came to prominence precisely during the 2015 elections when he was an advisor to Prime Minister Netanyahu. Despite a difficult political situation and slim chances of winning, they managed to win the elections largely thanks to the expertise of Israel Einhorn and his partner Yonatan Uri, who continues to advise Prime Minister Netanyahu and is also under investigation for suspected criminal offenses. Einhorn is close to Prime Minister Netanyahu. When he comes to Israel, he meets with him. They are on good terms,” Bandel concluded.
