The Israeli army announced that it has sent troops “deeper into southern Lebanon,” beyond the five positions it has held under control since the 2024 ceasefire, reports Middle East Eye.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz announced that a ground offensive in southern Lebanon has been approved.
Katz stated that he and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu authorized the army to “advance and hold additional dominant positions in Lebanon.”
According to him, the goal is “preventing the possibility of direct fire on Israeli communities.”

It is stated that the renewed offensive represents part of what they described as a “strengthened forward defensive posture.”
The announcement comes a day after hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah broke out again in the context of the war with Iran.
On Monday, the Lebanese group began rocket attacks on northern Israel, stating that it was a response to the killing of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
Israel retaliated with heavy airstrikes on southern Lebanon and the capital Beirut, killing dozens of people and causing a new wave of population displacement.
