The United States (USA) has proposed a 15-point plan to Iran for a possible ceasefire, an unnamed official stated, although the military has begun relocating a paratrooper unit to the Middle East as support for the contingent of marines that deployed there today.
The Iranian military has rejected diplomatic efforts and launched new attacks on Israel and the Gulf region.
Washington conveyed the plan to Iran through intermediaries from Pakistan, who offered to host potential negotiations, said an unnamed person familiar with the proposal, reports AP.
Israeli officials, who advocate for continuing the war against Iran, were surprised by the ceasefire plan.
The White House did not respond to requests for comment, and media reported that the plan includes the dismantling of nuclear facilities in Iran in exchange for lifting sanctions.
U.S. President Donald Trump said at the White House last night that Washington is “currently in negotiations” and that participants in those negotiations include special envoy Steve Witkoff, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Vice President J.D. Vance, as well as his son-in-law Jared Kushner.
“More people are working on it. And the other side, I can tell you, would like to reach an agreement,” Trump said.
Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf rejected claims of direct negotiations.
