The European Public Prosecutor’s Office has confirmed to Nova.rs that an investigation is underway into possible misuse of EU funds related to the Novi Sad Railway Station.

The European Public Prosecutor’s Office, led by Laura Kövesi, responded to Nova.rs following previous inquiries, stating that due to significant public interest, they are confirming that an investigation is ongoing into potential abuses of EU funds connected to the Novi Sad Railway Station.

“In order not to jeopardize the outcome of this investigation, no further details can be disclosed. The EPPO must determine its jurisdiction when fraud involving EU funds allocated to non-EU countries or EU member states that do not participate occurs. Since financial damage to the Union’s interests is an integral part of the criminal offense of fraud, when such damage occurs in Belgium or Luxembourg (as funds are disbursed from there, where EU institutions are located), those member states have jurisdiction, and thus the EPPO has jurisdiction as well, regardless of where the act took place, even if on the territory of a third country,” the European Prosecutor’s Office stated in its response.

This information was later confirmed in a statement to Nova.rs by Tina Holevot, the spokesperson for the European Public Prosecutor’s Office.
