KK Partizan confirms that three of its players found themselves in the middle of an incident last night that occurred not far from a well-known Belgrade nightclub. According to information received from the players, they were racially insulted by a group of young men, while the girls in their company were called the most offensive names simply because they were in the company of dark-skinned people. When everyone thought the incident had ended verbally, the same group of young men waited for the Partizan players in front of the club after they exited and physically attacked them. As a result of the attack, they retaliated against the attackers. As citizens, after receiving a call from the competent authorities, the Partizan players will go to give their statements. All internal matters of KK Partizan will be resolved in accordance with the club’s regulations.
The incident allegedly occurred when the basketball players stood up for the girls who were persistently being insulted by a group. As Sportal learns, it all started in the nightclub when the Partizan basketball players were communicating with several girls who came to their table. This, allegedly, did not please a group of young men at the neighboring table, so they started heckling and insulting both the girls and the Partizan basketball players, who were called offensive names and racially insulted. Initially, the Partizan basketball players ignored the insults, but a scuffle and argument soon ensued, which ended with the group of young men who started the whole story leaving the club.
Partizan plays the first game of the ABA League quarterfinals against Spartak from Subotica on Friday at 7 PM, and it is uncertain whether the Cincinnati-born basketball player will be available to Željko Obradović after this incident.
