“Welcome home,” President Joe Biden said to his successor, President-elect Donald Trump, as he greeted him in front of the White House.
Trump’s return to the White House represents a disappointment for Biden, who once believed he was the person who could prevent his rival’s return to power.
Nevertheless, Biden showed no signs of resentment as he extended his hand to Trump, welcoming him to the traditional tea and coffee gathering before the inauguration ceremony.
When asked what his message for the day was, Biden briefly responded: “Joy.”

Farewell Letter
An official stated that it was “very important to Trump to respect tradition, do everything by the rules, and as tradition dictates.”
Biden confirmed that he left a letter in the Oval Office for his predecessor and successor, Trump. He declined to reveal the contents of the letter he wrote to the new-old President of the United States.
“That’s between Trump and me,” Biden said.
After the tea at the White House, Trump and Biden headed together to the Capitol, where his inauguration will take place.
