Riding motorcycles—but wearing New Year’s hats and Santa Claus costumes—bikers arrived in the courtyard of the University Clinical Center in Niš. Instead of the usual city noise, they were greeted by children’s smiles. This charitable tradition has been going on for more than ten years, with the same goal every year—to make life a little brighter, even for a moment, for children in the hospital.
Milan Stojiljković “Džoni,” president of the motorcycle club Road Guardian MC Niš, said that club members brought more than 90 New Year’s gift packages for the children this year as well.
“First and foremost, we want the packages to go to the children in the Hemato-Oncology Department, but then we expand the initiative to other pediatric departments of the Clinical Center. We prepare the packages with the help of donations, and anyone who wants to participate can contact us,” said Stojiljković.
He added that the club has about 40 members, all of whom participate in preparing and distributing the packages.
“We all ride, and neither rain nor snow stops us. We don’t have reindeer, just motorcycles. Our only motivation is children’s smiles and their health. Nothing is more beautiful than that,” Stojiljković emphasized.
The same sentiment was echoed by Nebojša Panić from the Road Guardian MC Niš.
“Every year is the same, and it will continue to be so. It would be great if there were no children in the hospital and we didn’t have to come. Considering that there are more each year, it doesn’t exactly make me happy, but we’re always here to bring a smile,” said Panić.
Children from the Pediatrics and Pediatric Surgery Departments peeked eagerly through windows, and the sound of motorcycles and red costumes in the hospital courtyard was a true attraction for them. Doctors say that such joy often matters more than the therapy itself.
“This year, the snow added to the New Year magic for our youngest patients. Together with our biker friends, who have been organizing this wonderful performance for six years, and with the choir from Ratko Vukićević Elementary School, this is the least the University Clinical Center can do for our patients,” said Goran Stanojević, assistant director of UKC Niš.
Dr. Živojin Spasić, director of the Pediatric Surgery Clinic, added that everyone at UKC hopes that in the new year there will be fewer children in the hospital, and that they will be healthier and happier.
“I hope that this wonderful gesture from our bikers helps make the hospital days easier for our young patients, both in the pediatric internal and surgical clinics. May they enter the New Year with more smiles on their faces,” said the UKC staff.
Together, the bikers, the choir, and the medical staff brought the children the most valuable gift of all—a feeling that they are not alone. Their tradition demonstrates that the holidays are not just a time for giving presents, but also an opportunity to remember the power of a small, sincere act of kindness.
