That what is ours is only as much as we give to others and that in a fast-paced world the most important thing is to remain human, Dragan Jovanović shows us in the best way through his personal example. In a time when many lock their gates and keep what they have only for themselves, this man did something completely opposite. He decided to cede the estate in the village of Moravci near Ljig, with a house and yard, which he inherited from his grandfather, to organizations that work with children with special needs. Across three hectares, it is not just meadows and a house that spread out, but the full breadth of love and a great heart is shown.
-I inherited this estate from my grandfather, and my mother and I built a house here. We ceded it for 20 years without any compensation to organizations from Valjevo and Ljig that work with children with special needs. This is now a corner for the little ones who live in the city, closed within four walls. It is an experience for them when they appear here. I cannot describe the joy those children feel when they all gather together and even compete. Those who can. There are also those who are in wheelchairs, and for them, it is enough just to take a ball in their hands and throw it. They don’t have to hit the hoop or the goal, it is enough just to take it in their hands and throw. Their happiness knows no bounds – Dragan tells RINA.
The house is spacious, adapted, with bedrooms, a bathroom, and a functional kitchen. A true paradise in the heart of the village of Moravci. For six years now, this has been a place that brings special happiness to special little ones. There was also a minor problem with the water, which Dragan solved. In the yard, there is a summer house and a large playground. There is also a work center where children can write, draw, and work with playdough. There are swings and slides.
-I wanted to give back. My child also has special needs. I empathize with those parents because I know what they go through. It is difficult to be a parent of a child with special needs. I think it is sometimes harder for the parent than for the child, because they must watch over the child 24 hours a day. I wanted to help both them and my children. I think I did something good, me and my family. My heart is full when I see those children progressing and enjoying themselves – says this man with a big heart.
Gabriela Šipoš is the main organizer of the programs and content for the users.
-We have a total of 38 users in the territory of the municipality of Ljig, from three to 52 years old. Children from all over Serbia, and even the region, come to this household. Individuals, companies, entrepreneurs, transport firms, and unions help. Thanks to them too, the facility has all these conditions. This means a lot to the children because they are often closed within four walls. Here they relax and engage in activities – says Gabriela.
This is a house where hope is born again. It is not woven only of walls, but of faith and immense love. It is a measure for people with a big heart and a burden that is bravely and proudly carried on one’s shoulders.
