Sava Nikić, who with his skillful hands prepares food and thus earns not only his own pocket money but also contributes to the household budget in this way, has captivated Serbia.

He is not one of those children whom life forced to fight for a piece of bread — he works because he wants to.

How he decided to pursue this job was explained by Sava Nikić for “Puls Srbije.”

-I prepare some things, and my colleagues prepare others. We offer XL tacos, pies from the farm from our snack house with homemade sauces. My colleagues and I make all the sauces. We knead the pies and tortillas, and we also make gyros. For tacos, you choose the meat, sauce, and fries yourself. They normally come with four types of cheese, fries, meat of your choice, sauces — including tzatziki, tomato, ketchup, and our homemade ninja sauce, which is spicy, plus Tabasco. The ninja sauce includes sambal, paprika, onion, and a few more ingredients – Sava explained.

The beginning of a kitchen career

He recounted how he started working in the snack bar and emphasized that a professional kitchen represents a special challenge.

-I started doing this job during the school break. I worked with pies and wanted a bit of adrenaline, so I switched to the snack bar. The team there is excellent, it’s always busy, and a professional kitchen is a special challenge – he said.

Parental support

Sava explains that he had to show his parents that he wanted to work and help, and now he spends most of his time at the cash register and preparing tacos.

-When my parents heard that I wanted to work, they said there was no need, but I told them I wanted to help around the house and work. Some people doubted me, but I proved that I could do it. Most of the time I work at the cash register, help with preparation and making tacos, and make sure each one is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside – says Sava.

Balancing school and work

He says he manages to balance school, work, and social life. He especially enjoys making French tacos and advises his peers to follow their wishes because personal effort is irreplaceable.

-I’m slowly moving to a higher level. My colleagues support me; there’s no jealousy. I try to balance school and work — I mostly work after school, but I manage to get everything done — both work and hanging out. I enjoy making French tacos and working at the register the most. As for my friends and teachers, they all support me; however, my friends sometimes ask why I work, but when they tried the food they were thrilled. I would advise my peers to do what their heart desires. You can earn good money from video games too, but when you work and earn money yourself, the feeling is completely different — that’s your money and your effort – he concluded.
