Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky left the White House following a heated debate during a meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance.
President Donald Trump and Vice President James David Vance strongly criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in front of cameras in the Oval Office after Zelensky requested security guarantees at a time when the U.S. is trying to end his country’s war with Russia.
Trump accused Zelensky of being disrespectful for mentioning that the U.S. has an obligation to protect Ukraine from further Russian aggression.
“You are gambling with the lives of millions. You are gambling with World War III, and what you are doing is deeply disrespectful to this country, which has supported you far more than many people say it should have,” Trump said.
Zelensky responded that Russian President Vladimir Putin’s promises of peace could not be trusted, arguing that Putin had already broken previous commitments. Trump countered by saying that Putin had never broken agreements with him.
“You need to show more gratitude,” Trump told Zelensky.
Vance joined the discussion, accusing Zelensky of being disrespectful by arguing with Trump in the Oval Office in front of American media.
“Have you even once said ‘thank you’?” Vance asked.
During the meeting, the White House on Friday removed a journalist from the Russian news agency TASS from the Oval Office, stating that he was not on the list of approved media for Trump’s meeting with Zelensky, Reuters confirmed.
The move followed reports about the journalist’s presence being flagged to White House security services.

According to a draft agreement on minerals that both delegations were expected to sign, Ukraine would allocate 50% of its revenue from natural resources to the fund. Zelensky insisted that the economic deal must also be accompanied by concrete security guarantees.
Following the meeting, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky left the White House.
A previously planned joint press conference between the two leaders was canceled.
Trump later stated on social media that he concluded Zelensky “is not ready for peace if America is involved because he believes our presence gives him a major advantage in negotiations.”
“I don’t want an advantage, I want peace,” Trump wrote.
He then accused Zelensky of “showing disrespect to the United States in its esteemed Oval Office.”
“He can return when he is ready for peace,” Trump concluded.
