A prestigious recognition for exceptional success and dedication in the field of cardiovascular medicine was received in recent days by Professor Dr. Milovan Bojić, director of the Dedinje Institute for Cardiovascular Diseases, who has been elected as a member of the state Russian Academy of Sciences, one of the most distinguished institutions in the world, the Dedinje Institute announced.

This news, confirmed by a personal letter from the President of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Academician Gennady Krasnikov, represents an exceptional honor for Professor Bojić and a confirmation of his decades-long scientific and professional work in Serbian medicine.

“The election of foreign experts to the Russian Academy of Sciences, founded way back in 1724 by decree of Peter the Great, is a true rarity. With 890 full and 1,135 corresponding members, the Academy is the most respected scientific body in the Russian Federation. Professor Bojić is the second Serbian expert in the field of medicine to receive this exceptional honor, which further emphasizes the weight and significance of the aforementioned recognition. The letter that Professor Bojić received from Academician Krasnikov clearly testifies to the prestige of this appointment,” the Institute’s statement reads.

“Dear Professor Bojić, it is my pleasure to inform you that on May 30, 2025, at the General Assembly of the Russian Academy of Sciences, you were elected as a foreign member,” the letter states.

Krasnikov also expressed his belief that joint efforts will contribute to fruitful cooperation between Serbia and Russia. This recognition, as Professor Bojić emphasizes, is not only personal but also a confirmation of his “life project – the Dedinje Institute.”

“I am extremely honored by my election to the Russian Academy of Sciences. I believe it is a great honor for any person, including myself, considering that my scientific and research work has lasted for more than four decades. I believe this recognition can contribute to further improving relations between the healthcare systems of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Serbia, as well as strengthening cooperation.

This is a great recognition for all the work I have done in all the positions I have held so far. My satisfaction is all the greater because the great Academy and the great people in it recognized my contribution and commitment. It is an honor to be part of the Russian Academy of Sciences, alongside such names as Yevgeny Ivanovich Chazov, who introduced thrombolytic therapy for myocardial infarction back in 1961. There are also a number of academicians whom I know from the fields of cardiology, cardiac surgery, etc., with countless joint meetings at congresses, symposiums, but also through cooperation between institutions, which will be even more fruitful with my election,” Professor Bojić stated.

This exceptional recognition joins an already impressive list of awards and honors that Professor Bojić has received during his long career. Among them are the Sretenje Order of the First Degree for merits in cardiology, personally presented to him by President Aleksandar Vučić, as well as the Order of the Flag of the First Order of Republika Srpska with a golden wreath.

He is also a member of the Academy of Sciences and Arts of Republika Srpska, as well as the European Academy of Sciences and Arts in Salzburg, and has received many other recognitions in the country and the region, from being elected an honorary citizen to being a recipient of other awards and decorations.

The official ceremony for Professor Bojić’s induction into the Russian Academy of Sciences will take place in October of this year in Moscow, and it will certainly be an event that will further strengthen ties between the medical and scientific communities of these two countries, concludes the statement from the Dedinje Institute.
