Philosophy professor Miloš Jeremić from the Požarevac Gymnasium is the recipient of the prestigious “Best Teacher of the Region” award, presented by the Association of Best Teachers and Leaders of the Region.

This regional network brings together educators, teachers, and professors from six countries of the former Yugoslavia, with the aim of improving education through cooperation, knowledge exchange, and mutual support.

The Association was founded in 2018 by finalists of the Global Teacher Prize – Željana Radojičić Lukić from Serbia and Vesela Bogdanović from North Macedonia. Their vision was to create a community of educational professionals from the Balkans that promotes the values of excellence, innovation, and integrity in education.

The “Best Teacher of the Region” award is given based on clearly defined criteria, which differ from existing national and international awards in education. Candidates apply on their own initiative, complete a detailed questionnaire, and submit documentation confirming their work. Out of a total of 27 criteria, at least 15 must be met to enter the shortlist.

In the eighth generation of this award, 20 finalists entered the shortlist and participated in the regional conference “The World of Education Erases Borders,” held from May 1st to 4th, 2025, in Ohrid. During the conference, in addition to lectures and workshops, an additional form of selection known as “silent assessment by presence” was conducted, through direct participation, professional communication, and the overall engagement of the candidates.

Based on a combined assessment of the documentation and engagement during the conference, the expert team of the Association this year awarded the recognition to ten exceptional teachers from the region. Among them is Miloš Jeremić.

Jeremić is a philosophy professor, author of textbooks and teacher’s manuals, and the founder of the Serbian Philosophy Olympiad. He has been a long-time associate of the Council of Europe and an international teacher trainer, known for his authentic approach to philosophy with children and young people.
