Barcelona defeated Partizan in the 21st round of the EuroLeague at the “Blaugrana” arena by a score of 88:70 (13:20, 28:15, 21:15, 26:20).
Partizan’s basketball players were defeated once again in the EuroLeague, as they fell away from home against Barcelona in the 21st round of Europe’s elite competition, despite opening the game quite well—perhaps their best start since Joan Peñarroya took over—88:70.
However, a lackluster defensive performance from the second quarter until the end of the game allowed Barcelona to quickly take control, compounded by a large number of turnovers by the Belgrade team.
Barcelona established its trademark inside game and gradually took complete control, managing to keep Partizan at arm’s length throughout the entire second half.
Partizan’s first quarter at the “Blaugrana” was truly excellent. The black-and-whites entered the game well organized, played very solid defense, and effectively prevented Barcelona from scoring any easy baskets. Led by an inspired Bruno Fernando, Nick Calathes, and Tonye Jekiri, they built a seven-point advantage after the opening ten minutes.

However, the very start of the second quarter opened up a series of problems for Partizan. The defense collapsed like a house of cards, and after just 30 seconds the home team erased the black-and-whites’ lead and soon after took the advantage themselves.
Partizan managed to stay level until the very end of the first half, but then again linked several weak defensive possessions and lost their offensive ideas. Bonga and Washington missed several three-pointers rather easily, while Barcelona capitalized on their chances and went into halftime with a six-point lead.
The third quarter was everything Partizan fans have grown accustomed to over the past few months. With no energy on defense and a huge number of mistakes, the black-and-whites practically served Barcelona’s players baskets on a platter.
The home team did not hesitate to take advantage of the gifts and quickly built a double-digit lead. Partizan did stabilize somewhat toward the end of the third quarter and did not allow the margin to skyrocket, but it was clear that Barça had full control of the situation. The Spaniards entered the final ten minutes with a 12-point advantage.
Barcelona quickly finished the job, and everything became clear after Shengelia’s three-pointer pushed the lead to +15 midway through the final quarter. It was the final blow, from which the black-and-whites were unable to recover.
This was Partizan’s sixth consecutive EuroLeague defeat, with the losing streak starting after the eternal derby against Crvena Zvezda. With this new victory, Barcelona improved to a 14–7 record and climbed to the very top of the standings.
Next week, Olympiacos will visit Belgrade to face Partizan, while Barcelona head to Madrid for El Clásico against Real Madrid.
