The perpetrator of the attempted assassination of Lieutenant General Vladimir Alekseyev of Russia’s military intelligence service has been detained in Dubai and handed over to Russia, and he is a Russian citizen, the Public Relations Center of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) announced today.
“With the assistance of partners from the United Arab Emirates, Russian citizen Lyubomir Korba, born in 1960, who was the direct perpetrator of the crime, was detained in Dubai and handed over to the Russian side,” the statement said, as reported by the RIA Novosti agency.
The FSB statement also says that Viktor Vasin, an accomplice in the attempted assassination of General Alekseyev, has been deprived of liberty and detained in Moscow.
“Together with the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, following investigative measures regarding the attempted murder of the First Deputy Chief of the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, Lieutenant General Vladimir Alekseyev, the FSB identified and arrested an accomplice in this crime, Russian citizen Viktor Vasin, born in 1959, detained in the city of Moscow,” the statement said.
An unknown attacker opened fire on Lieutenant General Alekseyev on February 6 in a residential building in Moscow.
After the attempted murder, General Alekseyev was hospitalized in serious condition, after which an investigation and criminal proceedings were launched for attempted murder and illegal trafficking in firearms.
