Lawmakers in Florida have passed a bill that will rename Palm Beach International Airport after the President of the United States, Donald Trump.

The Florida Senate approved the measure with 25 votes in favor and 11 against, just days after the state’s Florida House of Representatives passed the proposal by a vote of 81 to 30, Reuters reported.

Republicans largely supported the bill, while Democrats opposed it.

The legislation has been sent to Governor Ron DeSantis, who has not stated whether he will sign it.

His office, as well as the White House, did not respond to requests for comment.

Representatives of Palm Beach County also did not respond.

The decision to rename the airport follows Florida’s approval last year of a plan to donate property in downtown Miami as the site for Trump’s presidential library.

Trump moved from New York City to Florida in 2019, where his primary residence is at the Mar-a-Lago resort in West Palm Beach.
