Representatives of the Serb List today, along with other members of the Kosovo Assembly, took an oath stating that they will “strive to protect and respect the constitutionality, legality, sovereignty, territorial integrity, institutional integrity of Kosovo, and ensure guarantees of human rights and freedoms,” media reported.

The presiding official asked the MPs to stand while he read the oath to them, and then emphasized that they had to sign it in order for it to be valid. According to reports from Pristina-based media, the oath was signed by all MPs, including those from the Serb List.

That the MPs of that party signed the oath was also confirmed by the president of the Kosovo Journalists Association, Džemailj Redža, who stated that they allegedly “tried to hide it,” KoSSev reported.

“Serb List MPs desperately tried to hide that they were signing the oath, and top representatives Zlatan Elek and Slavko Simić were seen leaving the chamber to do so. The parliamentary oath states that they will work to defend the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Kosovo,” Redža stated.

The text of the oath read to the MPs by the session chair, Avni Dehari, is as follows:

“I, a Member of the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo, solemnly swear that I will perform my duties honorably and with dedication, and represent the people with dignity, that I will work in the interest of Kosovo and all citizens, strive to protect and respect the constitutionality, legality, sovereignty, territorial integrity, institutional integrity of Kosovo, and ensure guarantees of human rights and freedoms, in accordance with the laws of the country. I swear.”
