The celebrated Serbian basketball player Dejan Bodiroga addressed the citizens at Slavija.
“Good evening Serbia, good evening Belgrade. Dear students, dear brothers and sisters, I sincerely want to thank you for giving me the opportunity to address you here tonight,” says Bodiroga while citizens chant “we have our own God, his name is Bodiroga.”
“Thank you for being here, awake, present, unwavering. May this day be for our health and salvation, because Vidovdan is not an ordinary date, Vidovdan is the conscience of the people, resistance and refusal of tyranny. It is the testament of Tsar Lazar and Serbian knights who chose to die for what they believe in. It is also the testament of the people who, through the Second World War, chose to be on the right side of history, to create a state and save face. Vidovdan is also Košare, and our war veterans. But dear students and professors, Vidovdan today is you, who are fighting for justice, truth, for a country that will not be humiliated, divided, blackmailed,” said Bodiroga.
Then he added:
“When someone stands up for the truth, they are invincible. And today, those who have trampled it the most, those who have managed to make us despise everything they touched, who have reduced Serbia to their measure, are talking about patriotism. To the measure of fear, arrogance, humiliation, thievery, betrayal. To call this youth, our children, terrorists, while protecting the worst criminals, that is their measure. But we do not accept that measure. Shame on them for attacking the most noble among us, who one day should lead this country,” Bodiroga pointed out.
“You are the future, but also our only valid present. You are patriots in the deepest sense of the word. Brave, smart, noble and dignified. You are the best Serbia has and I believe you will sound the end of a darkness and the beginning of a free and bright future.”
