Evgenia Shishkova and Vadim Naumov, Russian figure skaters, were on the “American Airlines” flight that crashed near Reagan National Airport in Washington.
This news was reported by the Russian news agency “TASS”, but official confirmation is still awaited, along with information about other victims.
Shishkova and Naumov won the 1994 World Championship in pairs figure skating.
The crashed plane was reportedly carrying 64 people, flying from Wichita to Washington.
The renowned sports pair was allegedly returning from a competition. According to media reports, the U.S. Figure Skating Championships were held in Wichita, Kansas, from January 21 to 26. Their son, figure skater Maxim Naumov, finished fourth in the tournament. There is no information on whether Maxim was on the plane at the time of the crash.

In addition to their gold at the 1994 World Championships, Shishkova and Naumov won silver (1995) and bronze (1993) at the World Championships. They were also four-time European Championship bronze medalists (1991-1993, 1995) and silver medalists in 1994.
After retiring from competition, they transitioned into coaching, continuing their careers in the United States.
“These athletes, coaches, and family members were returning home from the National Development Camp held in conjunction with the U.S. Figure Skating Championships in Wichita, Kansas. We are devastated by this indescribable tragedy, and the families of the victims are in our hearts. We will continue to monitor the situation and provide further updates as more information becomes available,” stated the governing body for U.S. Figure Skating.
