For the fifth consecutive day, freight carriers from Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina continue blocking border crossings, refusing to relent on their demands. Truck drivers in Montenegro and North Macedonia have lifted their blockades, RTS reports.

The European Commission recently presented a new visa strategy, which included a proposal intended to resolve the issue of restricted stays for professional drivers in the Schengen Zone.

The protest by freight transporters and the blockade of border crossings has now entered its fifth day. Freight terminals are blocked at 22 exits and 19 entries into the country, triggered by stricter procedures for entering the Schengen area.

Carriers from Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina announced last night, through the Bosnian consortium “Logistics,” after a meeting in Belgrade, that they will continue the blockade of freight border crossings.

Earlier, truck drivers from North Macedonia and Montenegro suspended their border blockades after the European Commission presented its new visa strategy, which included a proposal to solve the issue of limited Schengen stays for professional drivers.

European Commission Executive Vice President Hena Virkunen stated that, in the future, truck drivers would have a special limit on their stay in the Schengen Zone.
