Outgoing EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell said today that he is leaving Brussels “with immense frustration.” Because he failed to stop, as he put it, the massacre that Israel is carrying out against Palestinians in Gaza.
“I am leaving Brussels with immense, gigantic frustration, because we have not been able to stop this massacre,” Borrell said in an interview with Spanish national radio RNE, his last interview as the European Union’s foreign policy chief.
Borrell, who a few days ago in Jordan spoke with UN representatives in charge of humanitarian aid whom Israel does not allow to deliver aid to the Gaza Strip, said he had heard “cruel things,” RTVE reported.
“They told me cruel things. In northern Gaza, there are 250,000 people whom we have stopped helping because we cannot enter. The security level there is below zero. And what will happen? Those people will die,” Borrell said.
He warned that Palestinians there would die of hunger, disease, and abandonment. “The only thing that can be done is to put pressure on Israel to allow the entry of humanitarian aid. But that is not happening,” Borrell said, Tanjug reports.
