Novak Đoković has advanced to the Wimbledon semifinals, and besides his tennis matches, he’s also fighting other “battles” that inspire the people of Serbia.
In a conversation with Nebojša Višković after his triumph, he explained that tennis isn’t his only field of activity and thought.
When asked if his broad interests (culture, art, politics) help him in specific situations on the court, given his holistic view of the world, the seven-time Wimbledon champion said:
“Holistic – that’s a good definition. I look at things multidisciplinarily, and I think for me, that’s the only way when you’re seeking some kind of completeness in life, especially if you’re looking for an optimal balance between private and professional life in my privileged status, which I’ve had for over 20 years.
I need that breadth. I’m no longer that 18-year-old who only thinks about tennis. First and foremost, I’m a husband and father, and of course, a brother and son. I try to be with my loved ones as much as possible.
My priority, when I’m not on the court, is to be with my family and be the best possible father to my children.
Various spheres of life interest me, thank God, I haven’t hesitated to express my opinion sometimes. Has it backfired on me? Both yes and no…
I know who I am, integrity is something I defend with all my being; it’s very important to have a stance in life. That’s the kind of person I am,” Đoković concluded.
