The Board of Directors of Naftna Industrija Srbije (NIS) held an emergency meeting on Friday, during which it was stated that fuel supply in the coming period will remain largely stable, but that a quick solution must be found with the help of the state. The proposal to pay NIS employees their salaries in advance was also supported, Tanjug has learned.
The current situation and work plan under U.S. sanctions were discussed at the meeting, and the Board of Directors emphasized that there is no reason for panic among employees or citizens regarding fuel supply.
At the NIS Board meeting, it was announced that a meeting between the Government of Serbia and the company Gazprom Neft is expected to take place, and that in the coming days, the company’s CEO, Aleksandr Dyukov, is also expected to arrive in order to discuss future operations with the government.
It was stated that a quick solution is expected to be found with the state’s support, considering that NIS contributes around seven percent to the national budget.
It was noted that, although fuel supply is currently not at risk, reserves are not inexhaustible.
The NIS Board of Directors has 11 members. The chairman of the board is Aleksei Ursov, and his deputy is Dragutin Matanović. Four members of the Board of Directors are representatives of the Republic of Serbia. The meeting of the NIS Board of Directors was held yesterday at the request of the four members representing the Republic of Serbia. U.S. sanctions against NIS, due to its majority Russian ownership, took effect on Thursday at six o’clock in the morning.
