Jelena Tanasković, acting director of the Serbian Railways Infrastructure, has resigned due to the tragedy at the Novi Sad Railway Station where 15 people were killed and two others were seriously injured.

Jelena Tanasković has held the position of acting director of the Serbian Railways Infrastructure since May 2024.

“I hereby inform you that I am resigning from the position of acting director general of the Serbian Railways Infrastructure. It was an honor to join the team at the invitation of President Aleksandar Vučić and to participate in all the great things that Serbia is writing in its new history. Generations to come will talk about and be proud of everything that has been achieved for our country. I thank you and all members of the Government of the Republic of Serbia for the trust and support given to me in performing this function,” Tanasković stated in a written resignation that she submitted to the President of the Government of Serbia, Miloš Vučević.

Tanasković previously served as Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Water Management in a previous Serbian government.

Prior to that, from 2020 to 2022, she was a state secretary in the Ministry of Environmental Protection, while between 2018 and 2020, she held the position of state secretary in the Ministry of Finance. She was also the city secretary for finance of the City of Belgrade from 2017. As a reminder, earlier today, Minister of Internal and External Trade Tomislav Momirović also resigned.

President of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić said yesterday that, due to the tragedy in Novi Sad, he expects resignations in the government and in other places, and measures from the prosecution as soon as possible. Goran Vesić, the former Minister of Construction, Transport, and Infrastructure, also resigned on November 5th, four days after the canopy collapsed at the “Novi Sad” Railway Station.
