The famous scientist of Serbian origin, Ljubomir Djordjevic (94), passed away on Sunday, February 15, Serbian Times has learned.
Prof. Dr. Ljubomir Djordjevic was one of our most significant scientists in the diaspora.
His revolutionary work in the field of artificial blood (hemoglobin replacement) was a subject of admiration in world medical circles for decades, and due to the significance of his patents, he was often mentioned as a candidate for the Nobel Prize.

His research in Chicago directly influenced the saving of human lives.
The world scientific community has lost a giant, and the Serbian community in Chicago, all of America, and the motherland has lost one of its brightest representatives and ambassadors.
The funeral of Mr. Djordjevic will take place on Saturday, February 21, 2026, in Chicago.
