At the session of the United Nations Security Council, a six-month report on Kosovo and Metohija was presented, and at one point, the representative of Kosovo, Donika Gërvalla-Schwarz, decided to hold up a photograph of the Red Star football club fans’ choreography.
She decided to hold up the choreography from a friendly match that Red Star won 5-0 against Fiorentina in 2023 and discuss it as proof of her claims.
In the choreography, the “Delije” showed a tank, and underneath was the slogan “When the army returns to Kosovo”. Such graffiti can be seen throughout Serbia.
The representative of Kosovo used this choreography to touch upon some other historical matters.
They said football belongs to the people.

“Across Serbia, you can see murals like this one, ‘When the army returns to Kosovo’. It does not say ‘if’, but ‘when’. They are not hiding their goals, only the moment. There is no Kosovo and Metohija, that is a clear expression of a hegemonic Serbia. To be clear, that is the old language of Slobodan Milošević and those who still follow him. Kosovo is a Western democracy that supports NATO and the European Union the most,” Gërvalla-Schwarz stated while holding up the printed choreography.
Marko Đurić, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia, spoke about the significance of the term “Metohija” and that it has nothing to do with Milošević, but dates from a much earlier period.
“That is a wrong interpretation of the word Metohija, in Serbian tradition Kosovo and Metohija has a deep historical meaning. I respect the Albanian tradition, and in Serbian tradition and culture the meaning of the word Metohija is monastery or church property, that has nothing to do with Slobodan Milošević and this is evidenced by records from the 11th, 12th, and 13th centuries. That is part of our identity and culture, just as Albanians call that part Dukagjini,” Đurić said.
