Former Partizan football player Andrija Delibašić passed away at the age of 44, the official website of Radio Television of Montenegro reported today.

Delibašić grew up in Sutjeska from Nikšić, and then was a member of Partizan from 1995 to 2004. He then played for Mallorca, Benfica, Braga, AEK, Beira Mar, Real Sociedad, Hercules, Rayo Vallecano, Ratchaburi and Sutjeska.

Delibašić won three trophies with Partizan. Montenegrin media state that Delibašić was diagnosed with a brain tumor in March 2023 while he was the coach of Mornar.

He returned to football after the operation, and in July 2023 he was appointed sports director of Budućnost. Delibašić played for the youth national teams of Yugoslavia, and from 2009 to 2013 he played for the A national team of Montenegro.

Football club Mallorca said goodbye to its former player with a message on official club profiles.

Mallorca was his first club after Partizan.

“We deeply regret the loss of Andrija Delibašić, a former player of the club. We send our condolences to his family and loved ones,” reads the club’s announcement from the Balearic Islands.

Delibašić wore the Mallorca jersey from 2004-2008, who sent him on loan to Benfica, Braga, AEK, Beira Mar and Real Sociedad.

The Portuguese Benfica, whose player he was from 2005 to 2006, when he was sent on loan to Braga, also expressed condolences on his death.

Podgorica’s Budućnost also said goodbye to him emotionally.

“Friend. Brother. Friend. Human. And no, such a man never leaves, he will stay with us forever. We will celebrate your name, and you protect us! I will cheer you on from heaven to the titles…”, they wrote from Budućnost.

The Greek AEK, for which Delibašić played for one season, mourns his premature death.

“Today is a sad day for the AEK family, as the former football player of our team, Andrija Delibašić, passed away at the age of 44. The Montenegrin striker, who has been battling a very serious health problem in recent years, played for AEK in the 2006-07 season, with a total of 15 appearances and one goal in official matches. We wish his family courage and strength”.
