Vojvodina farmers are taking their tractors to the streets today in support of milk producers who have been blocking the Ibarska magistrala near Mrčajevci for days, demanding urgent state measures to protect domestic production. The protest is organized by the Initiative for the Survival of Farmers of Serbia along with nine other associations, and for now no traffic blockades have been announced.
“We have gathered here for now, there are already 25 tractors, as a sign of solidarity – in dairy cattle farming the situation is very, very difficult. This was caused by the regulation of the market, we have been saying that since August 2022 and we have not moved from a dead standstill. We started meetings about that exchange, but everything got stuck somewhere, it is constantly being pushed aside and no one is saying anything, and now it has come due,” Goran Filipović, president of the Initiative for the Survival of Farmers of Serbia, told N1.
He added that “agricultural policy changes with every minister.”
“We no longer know what to expect, every year brings us some new regulations, the regulations are not being issued, and it is already February,” he said.
Filipović said that they have been on the streets for three years. “We want continuity, strategy, regulation of the market, and then everything else. We do not know what we are importing, of what quality, probably questionable when it is at such a price, we have been brought into a hopeless situation,” he added.
Speaking about allegations that the BIA is threatening farmers who are taking to the streets with criminal and misdemeanor charges, he states that “they are calling them as well.”
“I cannot say that they are not calling me. Everything is in the domain of information – how many tractors, where, when and why. But that is not their job either, they should deal with the cartels that are causing us problems,” he said.
