The Serb Member and Chairwoman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Željka Cvijanović underscored that the strength of the state rests upon the agreement of its constituent peoples, despite the efforts of the Bosniak Member of the Presidency Denis Bećirović to portray it as something that can be safeguarded through repressive measures and unconstitutional actions.
“By stating that he planned the visit of NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte to coincide with events he knew would unfold in BiH, Bećirović is effectively admitting that he was already aware of the guilty verdict against the President of Republika Srpska”, Cvijanović said in a statement to SRNA, responding to Bećirović’s latest public remarks regarding the current situation in BiH and his purported efforts to preserve the constitutional and legal order.
She stressed that it is evident that Bećirović, much like certain journalists in Sarajevo, coordinated with those who drafted the verdict, further corroborating the statement made by attorney Ante Nobilo, who revealed that the verdict had been prepared well in advance.
“In reality, the entire narrative surrounding Milorad Dodik’s verdict was carefully orchestrated. A foreign national, acting without any legal authority, unilaterally amended a law to facilitate the persecution of the President of the Republic of Srpska, subsequently compelling the domestic judiciary to pursue proceedings against him. Now, both foreign actors and Milorad Dodik’s political opponents are repeating the same scripted narrative — that domestic institutions are allegedly handling the case independently”, Cvijanović emphasized.
She concluded that this constitutes a textbook example of constitutional abuse and lawfare, a deliberate misuse of the judiciary for political ends, all stemming from the unlawful usurpation of authority by a foreign national.
“What is particularly alarming is that Bećirović is now attempting to draw Mark Rutte into this narrative, which only further illustrates that – like all other Bosniak politicians – he has become accustomed not only to co-opting the joint institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina for partisan purposes, but also to exploiting the institutions of foreign states and international organizations to advance his political agenda.
Nonetheless, our cooperation with NATO remains constructive and mutually beneficial, and it will continue to be so”, Cvijanović stated.
She emphasized that the developments currently unfolding in BiH are political processes, and that the only genuine security threat arises from Bećirović and his insistence that institutional decisions should no longer be based on the Constitution, but rather on the principle of outvoting.
“Bećirović is essentially revealing what Bosnia and Herzegovina would become if the institutions of the Republic of Srpska were not actively safeguarding the Constitution – a country where Serbs would be permanently subjected to majoritarian imposition”, Cvijanović concluded
With regard to the Armed Forces, Cvijanović stated that they will act strictly in accordance with the law, reminding in her statement to SRNA that decisions concerning defence matters must be adopted by consensus of all Presidency members, rather than through the practice of outvoting championed by Bećirović.
“Perhaps I must, yet again, for the countless time, reiterate that any decisions adopted without the consensus of all Presidency members have no legal validity, and that Serb members of the Armed Forces will not engage in unlawful actions”, concluded the Serb Member and Chairwoman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Željka Cvijanović.
