Officials from the Croatian National Police Office for the Suppression of Corruption and Organized Crime raided the home of Health Minister Vili Beroš early this morning.
Croatian media reports that Minister Beroš, whose home was raided by police this morning, has been arrested. This is an action of USKOK (the Office for the Suppression of Corruption and Organized Crime), allegedly due to the procurement of medical equipment for neurosurgery at Zagreb’s Vinogradska Hospital.
Officers arrived at Beroš’s address with search warrants, reports N1.hr. According to initial information, in addition to the minister, a number of high-ranking doctors, including directors of some hospitals, are also the target of investigators. According to yet unconfirmed information, the head of the Clinic for Neurosurgery at KB Sestara milosrdnica, prof. dr sc. Krešimir Rotim, has also been arrested.

USKOK issued a brief statement.
“The arrests and the conduct of urgent evidentiary actions are the result of investigations previously conducted by USKOK. These actions are being carried out in the Zagreb and Skradin areas in relation to several persons, one of whom is a high-ranking civil servant, who are reasonably suspected of having committed corruption offenses. After questioning the suspect, USKOK will decide on further proceedings in the case, about which it will inform the public in due course,” the USKOK statement said.
The Index portal reports that Beroš is not answering calls, while the State Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Tomislav Dulibić, stated in the Croatian Radio show “Poligraf” that he does not know why the police raided Minister Beroš’s home.
He says he saw the information about it on the Jutarnji list portal just before the show started at 8:05 a.m. “When I get to the Ministry, I will probably have some other information. I can say to patients and citizens that everything will continue to function normally,” Dulibić said.
