The city of Sremska Mitrovica has declared Monday, October 20, 2025, a Day of Mourning on the occasion of the severe traffic accident near Jarak, in which three people lost their lives and dozens were injured.

The decision was made at an extraordinary session of the City Council, held this morning.

During the Day of Mourning, flags will be lowered to half-mast at all public institutions, and all events of an entertainment nature organized by the City and cultural institutions have been canceled, writes Ozon.rs.

The City of Sremska Mitrovica announced that aid of 200,000 dinars each will be paid to the families of the victims to cover funeral costs and other necessary expenses.

As a reminder, the traffic accident happened yesterday, shortly before 5 p.m., when the bus driver, for reasons unknown at this time, drove off the road. The carrier is “Sirmium bus,” and the driver D. K. (70) was detained after the accident.

In fact, the Ministry of Internal Affairs carried out supervision over the work of the carrier “Sirmium bus” three times in the previous two years and found over 60 irregularities that were processed by issuing misdemeanor orders or filing requests to initiate misdemeanor proceedings with the competent misdemeanor court.
