The founder and CEO of the company “Eagle Hills,” Mohamed Alabbar, stated that after the disapproval of the local community in Montenegro, he has given up on a potential project on Velika Plaža (Long Beach) in Ulcinj, adding that he is interested in another location on the coast, as well as one in the north of the country.
In an interview with Newsmax Balkans television, he stated that he made a mistake by applying for the tender to lease beaches in Ulcinj.
“I wanted to get one bathing area on Velika Plaža to show the public how that space could be arranged,” the Arab investor said.
Alabbar explained that after strong public reactions, he decided to return all the bathing areas he had previously won in the tender in March. He said that during his stay in Podgorica, where he was the keynote speaker at a real estate conference on Thursday, he spoke with the presidents of other coastal, as well as northern Montenegrin municipalities.
“Montenegro has many opportunities, and if someone tells us they want us to do something, okay – we will do it. For example, if someone tells me: you have this space in Budva, you can build, for example, 20 apartments and two hotels, then I will step back and do the calculations after which I will know the total investment,” Alabbar stated.
He emphasized that his investments in several countries range from one to 15 billion euros.
“If you invest, for example, one billion euros somewhere, always multiply that by three, because such an investment has that kind of effect on the overall economy,” Alabbar said.
When asked about which locations in Montenegro he is now interested in investing in after giving up on Ulcinj, Alabbar stated that he is interested in one location on the coast, as well as one in the north of the country.
“You have to understand that for us Arabs, mountains are interesting because of the fresh air, because in our countries the climate is tropical. Montenegro is beautiful, it has beautiful mountains as well as lakes,” Alabbar emphasized.
He stated that he is interested in one location roughly in the middle of the coast, and that he also has two proposals for the north of the country, emphasizing that these are just ideas for now, Tanjug reports.
