A cyber attack targeting a service provider for check-in and boarding systems has disrupted operations at several European airports, causing flight delays and cancellations at airports in Brussels and Berlin, operators said.

The attack disabled automated check-in and boarding systems, forcing the airport’s operational team to switch to manual procedures, which significantly slowed down the process, the Brussels airport statement said, Reuters reported.

As stated, the cyber attack had a major impact on the flight schedule, and passengers were warned to expect delays.

Many flights were canceled, while others experienced significant delays due to the complexity of manual procedures.

Passengers with flights scheduled for today were advised to confirm the status of their flight with the airlines in advance before going to the airport, in order to avoid additional complications.

The service provider states that it is actively working to resolve the issue and restore the system to function.

“Due to a technical problem with a system provider that operates throughout Europe, there are longer waiting times at check-in. We are working to resolve the issue quickly,” the Berlin airport said on its website.
