Živko Bakić (43), who was killed during a regular walk while wearing an ankle monitor in a forest near Sopot, as Kurir reveals, was under house arrest as he was on trial before the Special Court in Belgrade for smuggling 324 kilograms of cocaine from South America to Europe.
Bakić, who was once a footballer, is suspected of having been a member of the Balkan cartel and allegedly entered the drug business through his friend and associate Zoran Jakšić, known as the “man with 1,000 faces,” who died last year under unclear circumstances in a prison in Peru.
According to unofficial information, Bakić is suspected of having purchased drugs in Ecuador directly from producers, while Jakšić was his “main contact person.”
– Živko Bakić is charged by the indictment with, together with his group, from 2020 to 2021, using a well-developed scheme of transoceanic cocaine smuggling from South America, purchasing drugs from an unknown producer through his friend and close associate Zoran Jakšić and other unidentified persons, and then loading the “goods” onto transoceanic ships that further transported the hidden drugs to Europe – says a Kurir source.
As suspected, Jakšić and Bakić maintained contact via the Sky application even while the “man with 1,000 faces” was in a Peruvian prison.
Bakić and his criminal group were arrested in September 2023, and he was previously known as a footballer and allegedly lived in Ibiza.
Incidentally, one of his closest associates, Saša Momčilović, was also killed in August 2024 near Marbella.
As a reminder, the body of Živko Bakić was found around 4 p.m. in a forest, and it is suspected that he was killed with two gunshots. Police officers and a prosecutor from the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Belgrade are on the scene, and an investigation is ongoing.
– Apart from drug smuggling, Živko Bakić was also mentioned as one of the leaders of football fan groups – reveals a Kurir source.
According to unofficial information, the attacker approached Bakić and fired two shots at him from close range.
