In a desire to keep alive the memory of a young and brave Russian nurse who, exactly 100 years ago, came to Serbia as a volunteer to treat Serbian soldiers on the front line, and heroically died at the beginning of the First World War on Gučevo near Loznica, the “Together for a Smile” foundation, three years ago, established an award for the best nurses and technicians – the Merciful Sister Darja Aleksandrovna Korobkina Award.
The awards ceremony was held at a ceremony in the Russian House in Belgrade, and in addition to distinguished guests, members of the profession, representatives of the Embassy of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Health of Serbia, the Russian Center for Science and Culture, numerous sponsors and friends were also present.

Among thousands of applications, the expert jury selected only the three best in our country. For the area of secondary healthcare, the best in Serbia is Brankica Savović, a nurse at Priboj Hospital, who has been working in intensive care for 27 years.
“I didn’t expect the award, to be honest, I didn’t even know they had nominated me. I’m proud but I have to say that this recognition doesn’t belong just to me, but to the entire Priboj healthcare system, the Hospital, and my colleagues from Intensive Care,” Brankica told RINA.
She adds that the job of a nurse is not easy, very demanding, but it still carries a special charm. “Intensive care is teamwork. And when you are a family, when you work as a team, then everything is easier, even though shift work in intensive care requires a lot of sacrifice and complete dedication to the patient. But in addition to the effort and work, care and attention, working in Intensive Care also creates friendships for life, but it also carries special emotions. Both the good ones and the other ones,” emphasizes nurse Brankica Savović.
The best nurse in the field of secondary healthcare in Serbia is certainly a role model for younger colleagues, in whom she has trust and for whom she has an important message. “They just need to be hardworking, careful and patient and to know that the patient did not come to the hospital on a whim, but out of need, urgency and needs help as much as human and professional possibilities allow. I believe in them,” says Brankica Savović.
This prestigious award is also a recognition for the entire Priboj healthcare system, especially the Hospital, and we believe that Brankica Savović will enjoy and rest in her ten-day prize stay in Zlatibor.
