Two days ago, news arrived from Los Angeles that NBA star Luka Dončić celebrated his 27th birthday with a party. The media also reported that the entire Lakers team celebrated with him, led by LeBron James, and that the special guest was the greatest tennis player and athlete of all time, Novak Đoković.
Videos from Luka’s celebration also surfaced, showing the birthday boy blowing out the candles, while Nole prompts him and sings “There is one kingdom in the world…”
This, however, is not a text in which you will see “new exclusive photos” or video clips, details of the private lives of the two sports aces. This is a story about their human greatness, the testimony of Mile Vujnović, a well-known musician from Chicago, who performed with his band at Luka’s birthday party at the foot of the Hollywood Hills.
At the beginning of the conversation, Mile tells us that this was not the first time he played at Dončić’s celebrations…
-A few years ago the phone rang, and on the other end was his manager Lara. The woman politely introduced herself, explained how Luka had heard somewhere and received a recommendation that I have an excellent band, and that he would like us to play for him and his guests in Dallas (at the time he was still playing for the Mavericks). Of course we accepted the invitation, so together with my colleagues, singers Biljana and Kalča, I traveled to Texas. They welcomed and hosted us wonderfully there, everything was at the highest level and we had a great time. It seems that Luka and his guests also had a good time, because since then he calls us every time he organizes something. And Luka loves to celebrate, so this in LA was the fourth or fifth time in a year, says Mile Vujnović for Serbian Times.

A GOOD MAN AND A GREAT HOST: Mile Vujnović with Luka Dončić
He especially highlights the relationship Luka Dončić, one of the biggest basketball stars, has toward them:
-We were all surprised at how wonderful and down-to-earth he is, someone who doesn’t behave like a star at all, even though he is one. That first time in Dallas he immediately came to meet us, to talk, and afterward it was a pleasure to play for him because he knows many songs and never stops singing and celebrating. And he is not demanding at all, he doesn’t interrupt songs and doesn’t harass the musicians.
This time the birthday party was organized at the Hollywood club “Spare Room,” where the entire Lakers team was that evening, but one guest still had a special status:
-When Novak Đoković walked in, everything stopped and everyone looked at him, including us. The man simply radiates some positive energy, he glows in the dark, something indescribable. He came with a couple of guys from his team, fitness coach Amanović, who is also his best man, and a physiotherapist. Those guys, led by Nole, along with several people from Luka’s team, also our guys, were the most cheerful until the end of the evening, our interlocutor recalls.
Mile Vujnović, who has over 20 years of professional experience behind him, says he has never met people like Đoković and Dončić.
-They treat you like their buddy; when they request songs they don’t start the sentence with “Hey you, play that!”, but with: “Excuse me, do you maybe know that song…” Luka, as the host, comes around, asks if you have a drink, calls the waiters. All in all, a great experience. Afterward, we from the band commented that we felt as if we had been on vacation, not at work. Because in that kind of atmosphere, with those kinds of people, we could have played for three days and we wouldn’t have gotten tired!
We couldn’t resist asking Mile about the musical taste of Luka Dončić and Novak Đoković…
-Nole loves the songs of Toma Zdravković and those old classics, like “The Tavern Is My Destiny,” “Morning Has Come,” “I’m Going Across the Land of Serbia,” and that evening he was especially moved when we played “Vidovdan,” because his family originates from Kosovo. And Luka, with him there’s never a problem, Luka loves everything!, Mile Vujnović, a musician from Chicago, concludes our conversation with a smile and the story of two great athletes, but also extraordinary people.
