The volleyball players of Serbia started the World Championship with a loss. In Manila, the “Eagles” were defeated by the Czech Republic 0:3 (22:25, 23:25, 20:25). In a significantly altered lineup with the new coach Krecu, Serbia offered great resistance but failed to outplay their rival.
The first set of the match between Serbia and the Czech Republic was marked by the unstable play of the Serbian volleyball players, especially in service and attack. The Czech Republic was more consistent, more aggressive, and tactically more mature, which made the difference in key moments.
In that part, Pavle Perić had six points, while for the Czechs, the most effective was Indra with five points, and Klimes and Galabov scored three each.
The second set started with an even game. And up to 9:9, it was played point for point, and then the Czechs managed to pull away and slowly create a difference.
Although Perić and Luburić were the most effective, Serbia failed to get closer. The Czechs, through Vašina and Zajček, made a difference with strong and precise serves.
Serbia managed to get closer with a 3:0 run to 22:23, however, the opponent used their second set point and took a 2:0 lead in sets.
In the third set, the Czech Republic completely dominated, even though Serbia led 4:2. Still, the “Eagles” failed to hold the lead, but instead faltered under the onslaught of the Czechs, who made a 5:0 run. They only increased it until the end and finally won the same with 25:20, although Serbia managed to get closer to four points at one point (14:18).
The most effective for Serbia was Pavle Perić with 14 points, while Luburić stopped at 12. For the Czech Republic, the best was Indra with 14 points.
In the next round, Serbia plays against China and that duel will probably decide the second traveler for the round of 16. Our national team was defeated by China 3:0 in the Nations League this summer.
If Serbia wins one of the first two places in the group, in the round of 16 they will face: Iran, Egypt, Tunisia or the host Philippines.
