A Serbian police officer from Montenegro, who was arrested by immigration authorities almost two months ago, has returned to work at the police station in the western Chicago suburb of Hanover Park, where he previously worked.
Officer Radule Bojović, a Montenegrin citizen, was arrested in October after the Department of Homeland Security claimed he had overstayed his tourist visa, which he received ten years ago.
He has since posted bail and been released.
The municipality of Hanover Park states that he passed all background checks and that the federal government approved his work.
The Hanover Park Police Department announced on Facebook in August that Bojović had recently completed the Suburban Law Enforcement Academy and began an “intensive 15 weeks of field training and assessment,” preparing to serve the local community.
