Members of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Novi Pazar arrested A. K. (25) from Sjenica, on suspicion that he committed the criminal offense of serious crimes against public traffic safety, the MUP announced.
He is suspected of driving a “Skoda” at an inappropriate speed last night around 9:15 p.m. in Sjenica, when he mounted the sidewalk and struck a forty-four-year-old woman, her twelve-year-old daughter and nine-year-old son.
As a result of the injuries sustained, the woman and her daughter died at the scene, while the boy, who suffered serious bodily injuries, was admitted to the Institute for Mother and Child in Belgrade.
By order of the competent prosecutor’s office, A. K. has been detained for up to 48 hours, after which he will, along with a criminal complaint, be brought before the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Novi Pazar, the statement said.
The tragedy in Braće Čolović Street occurred when the driver of the “Skoda,” A. K. (26), due to inappropriate speed, lost control of the vehicle after exiting a curve, veered off the roadway and violently struck a mother with her two children on the sidewalk, after which the car came to a stop upon hitting a utility pole and a tree, “Telegraf.rs” has learned.
The deceased E. K. was employed as a police officer in Sjenica, and at the time of the accident she was off duty and walking with her children. The deaths of the mother and daughter were pronounced at the scene, while the seriously injured boy was urgently transported to the General Hospital in Užice with life-threatening injuries, and later during the night to the Institute for Mother and Child, where doctors are fighting for his life.
