In Zvečan, the bust of Bogdan Radenković, one of the most prominent political and cultural figures among Serbs in the former Ottoman Empire, was removed from in front of the premises where the JSKP “Standard” used to be located.
The elected mayor of the municipality of Zvečan, Dragiša Milović, stated that he does not know who made the decision for the bust of Bogdan Radenković to be removed and emphasized that this is yet another in a series of provocations and an unreasonable move by the outgoing illegitimate mayor of Zvečan.
“I don’t know whose decision it was to remove it, whether it was the decision of the outgoing municipal leadership, which has been devastating the municipality of Zvečan for three years. In my opinion, this is another provocation, an unreasonable move,” Milović said, as reported by TV Most.
He stressed that citizens should remain calm because, as he noted, there will be more provocations.
“What is most important is that tomorrow in the municipality of Zvečan, the legal and legitimate representatives of our citizens will take over the municipality. And I hope that together, because Zvečan is our common home, we will restore to Zvečan the shine it deserves. Therefore, tomorrow we will find out whether this outgoing leadership, which has done almost nothing in Zvečan for three years, illegally made such a decision,” Milović stated.
Sculptor Nenad Radenković Jero, who created the bust, emphasized that the removal of the bust of Bogdan Radenković is an anti-civilizational act and that, by an assembly decision, the bust will be returned to where it previously stood.
“One of the greatest intellectuals from this region, who spoke seven languages, who was a representative of the Serbs in Constantinople, who was a candidate for bishop, cannot simply be removed with unilateral actions and erased from an important part of Serbian history, not only of this area, but of the Serbian people in general. If the bust is not returned within a certain period, we will return it ourselves by an assembly decision,” Radenković stressed.
He pointed out that in his work, Bogdan Radenković never engaged in any activity directed against the Albanian people.
