In a U.S. forces attack on Caracas, during which President of Venezuela Nicolás Maduro was captured, 47 Venezuelan soldiers were killed, Defence Minister Vladimir Padrino announced.

Padrino noted that of the 47 killed, nine were women.

Cuba on Thursday received the remains of 32 soldiers, who Havana said were killed in combat in the early morning of January 3.

Last week, Venezuela’s interior minister said 100 people had been killed in the attack, without specifying how many were military personnel.

The United States captured Nicolás Maduro and his wife in Caracas and transported them to a prison in New York, where they face charges of narco‑terrorism and conspiracy against the U.S.
