The statement says that the remains of victims killed in 1991 in the area of Eastern Slavonia and in 1995 during the operations of the Croatian army and police “Bljesak” and “Oluja” were exhumed in the towns of Vinkovci, Pačetina, Donji Rajić, Petrinja, Dobropoljci and Zadar.
It is stated that the remains of these individuals were identified using DNA analysis and that their burial will be carried out in accordance with the wishes of their families.
“From the very beginning of the process of exhumations and identification of remains carried out on the territory of Croatia, according to a jointly established methodology, the Serbian side has been enabled to monitor, and this time as well the identifications were attended by the monitoring team of the Commission of the Government of Serbia for Missing Persons,” the statement says.
The statement notes that this continues the process of identifying victims of Serbian nationality whose families live in Serbia, which is of particular importance for the families of the missing who have been trying for years to find and properly bury the remains of their loved ones.
According to the Commission’s data, from 2001 to 2026, the remains of more than 1,400 victims of Serbian nationality killed in the armed conflicts on the territory of Croatia have been exhumed from registered mass graves, individual grave sites and other unmarked locations.
It adds that the remains of around 1,000 identified victims have been handed over to their families for burial.
