Serbia is under significant pressure from the United States due to the ties of Serbian criminals and businessmen to narcotics trafficking from Colombia and Venezuela, especially following the White House’s request for the urgent extradition of Serbian drug boss Antun Mrdeža, Serbian Times has learned from well-informed sources.

In this regard, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić requested several days ago, through diplomatic channels, a conversation with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

—Because of Mrdeža, but also several other Serbian drug bosses and businessmen whose names are on the blacklist and arrest list of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Serbia has for some time been under heavy pressure from the U.S., our source says, adding that it is assumed this is the reason Serbia did not receive an invitation to Trump’s Peace Committee, which was formed last week in Washington, our source claims.

He also adds that the Trump administration has so far not presented any concrete information linking the authorities in Belgrade to the mentioned drug boss and his associates.

Their suspicion is currently based on the fact that, besides Mrdeža, who is currently in a Venezuelan prison, there are several individuals of Serbian origin, some of them holding Serbian passports, who are connected to drug trafficking from South America to the United States.

The White House and Donald Trump hope that more information on this matter could be obtained after the hearing of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, who is being held in custody in the U.S. state of New York.

We recall that this morning we reported on an article by El País about how Donald Trump requested from Colombia and Venezuela the urgent extradition of Serbian drug boss Antun Mrdeža, also known under the name Nikola Boroš.

Mrdeža is part of the so-called “New Drug Trade Administration” – a network connecting Latin American and European drug bosses for the transport of large quantities of cocaine.

A U.S. intelligence report links the Serbian national and Colombian criminal Đovani Andres Rojas, known as “Araña,” with a transnational drug trafficking network.

According to the report, Rojas is the leader of the group “Border Commandos” and is currently imprisoned in La Picota prison in Bogotá. He made illegal deals with Mrdeža, who has been in custody in Venezuela since 2025.

As a result, the issue of their extradition has become a diplomatic matter between Washington, Bogotá, and Caracas.
