Student Bogdan Jovičić has been released from house arrest, his lawyer Ljiljana Borović confirmed to N1.
Jovičić, along with two other individuals, is charged with the criminal offense of violent conduct at sporting events and public gatherings. They are accused of smashing shop windows at the premises of the Serbian Progressive Party in Kosovska Street in Novi Sad and of damaging a vehicle.
He was arrested on August 14, following a large protest by students and citizens in Novi Sad.
During his time in the detention unit of the Novi Sad District Prison, Jovičić’s father passed away, and he was brought to the funeral with shackles on his legs.
The Administration for the Enforcement of Criminal Sanctions rejected allegations of humiliation, claiming that procedures were followed and that a concession was made to allow him to receive condolences.
Subsequently, on September 11, a decision was made to extend his detention by another 30 days, after which he began a hunger strike. He was then transferred from the detention facility in Klisa to a special prison hospital within the Central Prison in Belgrade.
