Marathon students arrived in Brussels around 7 PM, the final destination of their 16-day ultramarathon.
A large number of members of the Serbian diaspora, both from Belgium and surrounding countries, gathered in Brussels on the plateau in front of the European Union’s foreign affairs service to welcome the marathon students.
A group of students from the First Belgrade Gymnasium prepared a surprise in Brussels for their friend Maja, who ran an ultramarathon with a group of students from Novi Sad to the European capital.
Mihajlo Boćanin, a student at the First Gymnasium, said that Maja and their school friend Nikola Matić, who was in logistics, must be rewarded for the effort they put in running to Brussels.
“We also brought Maja’s brother and sister to make her happy with our presence after a turbulent journey, and we think we succeeded. We are proud of her and our friend Nikola Matić, who was in logistics,” Mihajlo told N1.
Students from the First Belgrade Gymnasium decided not to end their blockade until Maja and Nikola return to Serbia.
Dragana Radanović from the “Thumbs Up” organization revealed some of the students’ plans.
Speaking about the meetings the students will have in Brussels in the coming days, Radanović emphasized that “the list is long.”
Among numerous meetings, the students will talk with more than 50 members of parliament, but they will also meet with David McAllister, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament, and with European Commissioner Marta Kos.
“A meeting with Marta Kos is also planned for Thursday,” added Radanović.
