Actor Hadži Nenad Maričić, who is walking with students in the march to Novi Sad, told N1 that “citizens feel the need to fight to the end, because this chaos we’ve fallen into must end as soon as possible.”
Students and citizens walking from Belgrade to Novi Sad have entered Batajnica.
Among them is actor Hadži Nenad Maričić, who says that even when everything started, on the first day of the blockade, he said that he “knows this generation.”
“I’ve worked with students for a long time, I know that this generation is uncompromising and will go all the way, to victory. That has been recorded, I was sure that both the time and the citizens felt the need to fight to the end, because this chaos we’ve fallen into must end as soon as possible. Every segment of society has a problem, and I think it’s time for change,” he says.
As he adds, “it’s not just about November 1.”
“It’s also about this walk, the efforts of the entire society to reach some peaceful solution. Through their actions and strategy, students have shown that they do not want violence, that this is a nonviolent struggle. Anyone who would cause an incident in Novi Sad would clearly be sent by the other side. We’ve already seen violence from their side—let’s remember the brutal beatings and unnecessary use of police force,” he says.
He is convinced that the gathering will remain peaceful.
“I hope there will be no provocations. If there are any, those responsible will be the same ones who have been spreading hatred and inciting violence on the streets for the past year,” he says.
He also says this is his second walk.
“My grandfather walked from Germany to Ivanjica after the camp in ’45, so why wouldn’t I walk? Here I feel freedom and a sense that we are doing something good. We’re not endangering anyone—just look how many citizens come out to the streets, their eyes full of tears and support for these young people and for everyone who is fighting,” he says.
